"Mrs. Catherine Pence. This lady was born January 3d, 1828, in Clearmont county, Ohio, and died at her home in Jordan township, Warren county, Ind., January 20th, 1894, aged 66 years and 17 days. She came with her parents, George H. and Elizabeth Nodurft to Warren county, Ind., in 1829, where she ever resided. She was married to George Lloyd in 1847, and there were born to them five children, four of whom survive her. Her husband died in 1863. She again married in 1867 to George Pence, one son being born to them. Her second husband died March 1879. After his death she lived with her son, George Pence, up to the time of her death . Deceased became a member of the New Light Church, or what was then known as the "Brush Meeting House," and was a consistent member as long as that Church existed. She then united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and died in the faith of an eternal emjoyment beyond the grave. The funeral wa preached by Rev. Chas. Jakes on Sabbath, January 21st, 1894, at the Jordan Chapel and the remains were interred in the Jordan cemetery."

"Mrs. Catherine Pence, late of Jordan township, left a will by which she desposed of her estate as follows:
First, she directed that her just debts and funeral expenses be paid, and that a monument be erected at an expense not exceeding $100. She desired all her personal property to be converted into cash as provided by law, either at private or public sale, and she devised and bequeathed to her children, Mary A. Miller, Nancy J. Mehaffey, and Emma R. Smith, to be held by them as tenants in common, in fee simple and to share alide, part of section 19, township 22 north, range 9 west. To her son, Geo. L. Pence, 70 acres in section 18, township 22 north, range 9 west. To her daughter, Martha A. Cole, during her natural lifetime, 77 acres in section 18, township 22 north, range 9 west, and at her death the same to go to the children of Mrs. Cole who survives her; if no children survived, but they left grandchildren then the grand children inherit. If Mrs. Cole dies without children or grandchildren then the real estate goes to brothers and sisters of Mrs. Cole at her death. Mr. Ed. Mehaffey, a son-in-law, is made the executor. The wil was executed April 6th, 1893. James Anderson and C.V. McAdams are the witnesses. The will has been probated and can be seen at the County Clerk's office."
