"Allen Ford was born in Ross County, Ohio, December 5, 1816, and is a son of Richard and Rebecca (Youkem) Ford; the former a native of Kentucky, the later of Virginia. Allen worked for his father until his fiftheenth year, and therafter by the month. His father died when he was twenty-two, and he then supported his mother until her death. He herded and drove cattle for many years, and in 1860 settled in this township, where he followed his old occupation-that of cattle herder; he is an expert in matters relating to cattle. During the war, he enlisted in Company A, One Hundred and twenty-Eight Indiana Volunteers, and was in the battles of Resaca, Atlanta, Franklin, Nashville, and others. He was descharged on account of sickness. Mr. Ford is now living with his nephew, Strauder C. Ford; their interests in farming and in cattle are identical. Mr. Ford was Republican until 1868, since which he has been a Greenbacker."
